Design, decorative arts, material culture, objects and curiosities. A blog inspired by my interest in art history and museums.

Armchair, Koloman Moser, 1903, Vienna, maple, inlaid with ebonised pear-wood, with brass feet; upholstery not original, Victoria and Albert Museum.

This chair was designed in the Vienna Secession style, and reflects the design fascination of the period - plain surfaces. The light coloured wood and ebonised decoration is reminiscent of Biedermeir design from  1815-1840.
